Final decision on future due at the end of the month
More than 500 people have written to an An Post to show their support for Greencastle Post Office since the notice was given of the possible closure, it has been revealed.
Also since the local campaign to save the Post Office was kicked off, the number of AIB transactions at the office in Greencastle has seen a four fold increase.
Speaking to the ‘Inishowen Independent’ yesterday, following their meeting with An Post representatives on Tuesday, Gemma Havlin said it was a “good meeting”, but she admitted the representatives “gave nothing away”.
However she said that the increasing business at the Post Office proves that people are actually supporting their Post Office, rather than just taking about it. She said it’s time to “use it or lose it”.
Gemma explained that the Post Office reps revealed they were impressed with the level of community support from Greencastle backing the local office.
“We feel that it was a good meeting and it went well,” she said. “We covered everything and the most thing was that they were impressed with the 100% community support given that they received more than 500 items of correspondence from people in the area.
“As well as that there has been a four fold increase in the number of AIB transactions taking place in Greencastle since the notice was given. This shows that people are actually supporting the post office rather than just talking about it.”
