Patsy Wilson retires from fire service
‘He always brought us home safe’
At a function to mark the retirement of Patsy Wilson after 35 and half years as a fire-fighter in Moville, one of his former colleagues, Bernard Barr, paid him the greatest compliment when he said: “He always brought us home safe.”
The event held in the Redcastle Hotel marked the end of a long career in the fire service and was attended by colleagues, former colleagues, senior Chief Fire Officers and retired Chief Fire Officers.
Patsy who retired as Senior Officer said that he had seen a lot of changes since he became a fire-fighter in the late 1970s.
He said: “Some of the biggest changes have come about due to the differences in equipment and the like.
“At the beginning we had a land rover type vehicle, now we have a state of the art Scania.
“The station house when I joined was a converted garage and today there is a new modern station with showers and proper briefing rooms.”
