QPS youngsters set up away trip to Cavan with victory over Cappry Rovers
It was the away side who started the brighter of the two teams in this Barry Cup match at the School Pitch in Muff on Saturday afternoon last.
In the first minute a Sean McBride effort from the edge of the box was well dealt with by home keeper, Jason McCallion.
The first effort for the home side came in the 13th minute when a Dylan Jackson through ball was latched onto by Jack McConnellogue who shot inches over the bar.
The Swifts took the lead two minutes before the break when a Chris O Donnell free was met by the head of Dylan Jackson who looped his header over the Cappry keeper and into the bottom corner.
Cappry were very nearly back on level terms at the beginning of the second period, but Darren Lee Jones’ shot went wide of McCallion’s post.
McCallion then came to the Swift’s rescue when he was quick off his line to block a Shane Thompson effort which looked destined for the bottom corner.
The home side doubled their advantage in the 55th minute when an attempted lob by Denim McLaughlin came back off the bar only for Chris O Donnell to react quickest and slip the ball back to McLaughlin who made no mistake, firing low to the keeper’s right hand side for a fine goal.
