‘Beach access is accident waiting to happen’

Locals raise concerns over safety at Five Fingers Strand, Malin
Concerns have been raised about a neglected and dangerous access point to one of Inishowen’s best known and spectacular beaches.
Locals say a walkway from a designated car park at Lagg, Malin onto Five Fingers Strand has become so dilapidated by ongoing coastal erosion that an eight-foot drop, which could cause serious injury, has now developed.
A resident, who wishes to rename anonymous, told the Inishowen Independent this week that it’s only a matter of time before an accident happens at the popular beach.
“As you go down past Lagg Church towards the beach car park, there used to be a gentle walkway onto the sand but now it has been eroded away into a dangerous eight-foot drop. It verges on being completely inaccessible now,” he said.
