Glengad ‘Wile Goose Chase’ exceeds all expectations
Huge sum collected in memory of Angela Grogan and Tommy McColgan
When organisers of the Glengad ‘Wile Goose Chase’ first came up with the quirky fundraiser in the spring of 2012 they hoped to collect around €3,000.
Last week, when the dust – and feathers – had finally settled, the final tally came in at a whopping €27,000, nine times the original target, with all the money donated to coronary and cancer care.
Based on an idea by Culkenny Postmaster John McColgan, the ‘Wile Goose Chase’ was first hatched to raise money for charity and to honour two popular local people, who died in January last year, Tommy McColgan and Angela Grogan.
Grandmother Angela Grogan (60) suffered a massive heart attack while using a treadmill at a local gym and died almost instantly on Thursday, January 19, 2012 while Tommy McColgan succumbed to cancer four days before.
