Going wrong way on Maginn Avenue
Drivers warned of ‘rude awakening’ for going wrong way
The problem of vehicles driving the wrong way on Buncrana’s one-way system was highlighted at Tuesday night’s Buncrana Joint Policing Committee meeting, with Superintendent Eugene McGovern saying offending drivers will get a “rude awakening” as to the consequences of breaching Road Traffic legislation.
Daniel Lynch, who lives on Maginn Avenue, said that in one three hour period last week he counted 15 vehicles travelling the wrong way on the street.
“I have six grandchildren who visit regularly, and I’m very worried that there will be an accident.
“With the street being one-way, you’re not expecting vehicles to be travelling against the traffic.
“I was nearly hit on two different occasions myself.
“I have some elderly neighbours in their 80s, and driving the wrong way like this is just an accident waiting to happen.”
