‘Get your estate taken over by the council now’

Residents urged to sign up for takeover before Irish Water comes on board in January
Residents in Inishowen housing developments have been warned to ensure that their estates have been taken over by Donegal County Council before the beginning of next year when Irish Water assumes responsibility.
Newtown county councillor Paul Canning said it is vital that homeowners here start the process to have their estates taken over by Donegal County Council before December 31 next otherwise they could face hefty repair bills for future works.
“Housing estates that have been taken over by the council will be included as part of any ongoing deal with the Irish Water company, which will assume responsibility for all sewerage treatment plants as well as water,” he said.
“If an estate that has been taken over runs into future problems with a sewerage treatment plant then it will be covered by Irish Water for repairs and maintenance but those that aren’t are likely to be left to foot the bill themselves,” Cllr. Canning warned.
