Lisfannon strand torn up by winter storms

Extensive damage at blue flag beach

Anyone going for a walk on the beach at Lisfannon this weekend will be thoroughly shocked by the damage done to the road and sand dunes.

Violent storms and tidal surges over the last fortnight have left the access road and car park at the Blue Flag Beach in dreadful condition. While the beach remains accessible and there’s still limited parking, the road and car park have been closed off due to the damage.

Luckily some of the man made dunes, constructed when round bales were buried in the sand, served their purpose and managed to conserve sections of the road/car park directly behind them. However, the dunes themselves have taken a battering and will be vulnerable should there be a repeat of the high winds and tidal surges from the week before last.
