As a new report indicates an increase in food poverty in the country as a whole, the Society of St Vincent de Paul in Donegal is reporting that donations are down yet they are facing an even greater demand for assistance.

The report, released by the unions Unite and Mandate, reveals that food poverty  – defined as missing a meal within the past two weeks due to lack of money or being unable to afford a meal with meat every second day and a roast once a week – is on the increase.

Donegal features as one of the worst affected counties with some 18,700 people in the county fitting the category of being in food poverty.
