Work to repair weather-damaged Inishowen, including the shore paths at Moville (above left) and Greencastle, is set to get underway in the ‘very near future’.

Large sections of the popular walkway were torn up when high tides and storm-force winds lashed Inishowen last Friday morning.

During a third Met Eireann orange or red storm alert in quick succession, coastal areas of the peninsula fared worst; a roadway at Gortnamullen, Malin Head (above right), part of the scenic Inishowen 100 drive, was also badly damaged with its tarmac surface completely swept away.

Currently county council surveyors are assessing the damage to the Moville shore path and costing the repair works. They will report to director of services for roads and transport, John McLaughlin, before funding is sought.
