‘Raw sewage will have a devastating impact on all of us’

Anger as map showing pollution in Lough Foyle is left OUT of environmental report

Plant Failure 2

Thousands of gallons of raw sewage will spread along the north-east Inishowen shoreline, from Kinnego Bay through Greencastle, Moville and Redcastle, if the proposed Carnagarve treatment plant fails.

Campaigners against the controversial facility, granted planning permission in 2011, have this week uncovered a detailed map, showing widespread pollution in Lough Foyle and its beaches in a plant failure scenario.

Members of the Community for a Clean Estuary lobby group are angry that the official diagram, which shows that the highest concentration of raw effluent will tend towards the shoreline, was omitted from the final environmental impact study.

“It’s absolutely scandalous that this map, which shows the most devastating possible impact on our environment, was left out of the final environmental impact study. Everything is supposed to be included in the final report so that it may be scrutinised and considered by An Bord Pleanala before any planning permission is granted,” said group spokesman Enda Craig.
