Swilly lifeboat launched 25 times last year

RNLI saved more than 1,000 people nationally throughout 2013
The local Lough Swilly lifeboat was launched 25 times last year and was involved in rescuing eight people, the latest statistics have shown.
John McCarter, the Lifeboat Operations manager in Buncrana, revealed that the second half of the year was the busiest.
He said particularly poor weather during the early months of 2013 contributed to a low number of call-outs and major incidents.
“At the beginning of the year the weather was cold and wet and this seemed to have reduced the numbers on the water. Once the weather picked up and we had a good summer there were a lot more people out and we were much busier.”
