Major repair works needed at Carn, Buncrana, Moville and Inch Island
INISHOWEN’S leading Road’s Engineer has stated that he is confident the peninsula will get additional money to repair damage to roads caused during the severe winter storms.
There had been fears that the Council may be told to repair the roads out of their existing Budget but at the bi-monthly meeting of the Inishowen Electoral Area in Carn, senior engineer, Charlie Kerr, said he would be ‘fairly confident’ they would get all the monies they asked for. However he said he can’t promise anything.
Earlier this week the OPW announced that €1.38 million would be allocated to Donegal for storm damage. It is believed that almost €750,000 will be needed for Inishowen, after major damage was caused to areas in Carn, Buncrana, Moville and Inch Island.
The most expensive job on the Council’s list is €203,000 to be spent in Carndonagh after 200 metres of river erosion have caused gabions to deteriorate significantly. They say that there is no a “serious risk of damage” unless remedial works are undertaken.
