DONEGAL County Councillors have called on the Council to set up an urgent meeting with the Minister of Transport, amidst fears that the A5 motorway, from Derry city to Dublin, will be downgraded.

In a motion before the monthly meeting of the Council in Lifford last Monday, the councillors urged the Government to reaffirm their commitment to the road by giving the Council €50 million to start work immediately.

Fianna Fáil councillor Ciaran Brogan said he was horrified to hear on a radio interview recently that the Minister claimed the A5 was “too ambitious” and that there was a “gridlock” between Letterkenny and Strabane.
