Local pensioners will be forced to fork out for a seat on the bus
Pensioners will NOT be able to use their bus passes on the private buses drafted in to replace the bankrupt Lough Swilly vehicles.
That means that elderly men and women here will be forced to dip into their pensions to secure a seat on the current Buncrana to Derry bus service.
It is understood that the private company, McGonagle Bus and Coach Hire, which took over the route last weekend, is not in a position to accept bus passes because the firm will not be reimbursed by the Department of Transport.
Bus passes will be accepted on the old Swilly service from Muff to Derry, now operated by Ulsterbus, and the Letterkenny to Derry service, via Manor, Newtown and Killea, which has been taken on by Bus Eireann.
