An Post decides not to replace village service
Gleneely Post Office will close its doors for the final time tomorrow, Friday, after An Post this week decided not to advertise for a new postmaster to replace the retiring Kevin McLaughlin.
The deadline for expressions of interest passed on March 7 last and the Inishowen Independent understands that one local person registered an intention to take on the service. A meeting at the Gleneely Colts clubhouse in February also heard locals strongly support the retention of the service.
However in a letter to the Gleneely Development Association on Tuesday, An Post confirmed that the Post Office will close on Friday, April 4 for the final time.
After that date all Department of Social Protection payments, including jobseekers and pensions, will be transferred to Culdaff Post Office.
