Inishowen fares badly in Irish town survey

Rural towns worst hit by recession

New research by Teagasc has revealed that rural towns are worst hit by the recession and suffer greater levels of poverty and unemployment than their more urban rivals.

In the survey of 302 towns across the country Inishowen fared poorly. Under Teagasc’s Rural Towns Index, the highest ranked area in this region was Fahan, which came in at 115th out of 302 towns.

The rest of Inishowen was ranked much worse than that.

The next best town was Carndonagh which was ranked at 194th followed by Killea ranked 202nd. Buncrana came in at 242nd and Moville (above) fared worst at 273rd.
