GARDAÍ in Inishowen have given up on the war on drugs with just nineteen offences recorded here during all of last year.

It has been revealed that just one drugs offence was detected here every three weeks in 2013, down from three per week in 2008.

The sharp decrease is a direct result of the abolition of the dedicated Buncrana Garda drugs squad in the summer of 2012.

The latest Central Statistics Office crime figures for Inishowen, show that last year had the lowest number of drugs related detections by far in the past ten years – down a massive 86% from 2008 – when a dedicated ‘Drugs Squad’ was first established.
