Two Buncrana women, inspired by a local man’s battle against cancer, are set to embark on a 190-mile charity cycle at the end of the month.

Claire McCarron and Aine Daly (above) are currently in training ahead of the grueling three-day pedal from Galway to Clonmany on May 30 through June 1.

The intrepid duo hope to raise as much money as possible for two charities, the Friends of St. Luke’s Hospital and the Bone Marrow for Leukemia Trust at St. James’ Hospital.

Shaun Doherty, from Clonmany, was working in London as a civil engineer when he was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in August 2011 aged 24. He has been receiving treatment for the disease in the almost three years since.
