Good grace for Buncrana pay and display after all

U-turn: council decides to retain half-hour free parking grace period
In one of its final acts, Buncrana Town Council has rowed back on a previous proposal to abolish the half hour ‘grace period’ for car parking in the town.
Having previously proposed the abolition of the grace period, and the doubling of parking charges in town car parks, town councillors changed their position at Monday night’s meeting instead deciding to leave the current regime in place indefinitely.
Both Buncrana Chamber of Commerce and the Buncrana Traders Association made submissions saying that abolishing the grace period would be detrimental to business in the town.
Once the town council is dissolved later this month, parking charges in Buncrana will become the responsibility of county councillors elected to the new Inishowen Municipal District on 23 May. And that factor loomed large in Monday night’s decision.
