THE FIRST meeting of the Inishowen Municipal District is complete, however it was not without it’s fair share of controversy.
First item on the agenda for newly elected nine Inishowen councillors at the meeting, which was held in the Public Service Centre in Carn was the election of the new chairperson.
However it was clear early on that this was somewhat of a touchy subject as the nine councillors adjourned the meeting for 20 minutes to take part in negotiations, something which is virtually unheard of at the previous local area meetings.
Upon their return from the private discussions, outgoing chairperson of the Inishowen Electoral Area Martin Farren said it was down to him, as his last duty, to facilitate the election of the cathaoirleach however, newly elected Sinn Fein councillor, Albert Doherty objected.
