Clonmany crash trial to go ahead next Tuesday

The long awaited trial into the deaths of eight people following a road traffic collision outside Clonmany four years ago tomorrow, is due to take place next week in Letterkenny.
Shaun Kelly, 24, from Ballymagan Buncrana is charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of eight people at Meenaduff, Clonmany on July 11, 2010.
The case has faced numerous adjournments in court since Kelly first appeared in Buncrana Court in November 2011, however it is expected the case will go ahead in Letterkenny next week, on July 15.
A ‘fitness to plead’ application on behalf of Kelly’s defence team was withdrawn in May when the case was listed in Donegal Circuit Court.
Judge John O’Hagan assured the families that the case would be given priority in the July sitting of the Circuit Court and that he was aware that delays created a great deal of discomfort and pain for the families of the eight people who died.
The trial comes just days after the fourth anniversary of the crash.
