Inishowen teams flying high in Foyle Cup

It’s a case of so far so good for Inishowen teams in the Foyle Cup with a lot of sides well placed to top their groups and move on in the Foyle Cup proper.
In the under 11 section both Inishowen Academy sides the Colts and the Youths are well placed with the Colts currently second in their group while the Youths are sitting pretty at the top.
Hugh McGonagle’s u12 boys lost their first game against Shelbourne before bouncing back to beat Carnmoney and they now sit second in their group.
John L Coyle’s u13 boys face a winner takes all shoot out with Mid Ulster Youth League to see who finished top of the group after a 5-0 win over St.Oliver Plunkett and drawing 2-2 with Derry side Oak Athletic.
William O Connor and Gerard McLaughlin’s u14 side kicked off with an impressive 5-0 victory over Derry City and having won last year’s u13 Foyle Cup, this side will be confident of going well again.
In the u15 section, Anthony Doherty’s team have won their opening two games and are looking good to top their section which would be a terrific achievement.
Diarmuid O’Brien’s u16 side made the final last year and they kicked off with a comfortable 3-0 win over Derry Colts on Tuesday.
Shane Byrne and the u19 team have been very unfortunate so far, having conceded a last minute equaliser to English side Altrincham Town before going down 1-0 to a strong Derry City side.
In the girls section at u13 both Greencastle and Inishowen are sitting pretty at the top of their group and both have already qualified for the semi final stage with a game each to spare.
Finally in the women’s Foyle Cup both Illies and Greencastle are flying high at the top of their respective groups and both looked nailed on to make the semi final.
All in all it has been a superb start to the week for Inishowen sides, look out for full reaction in next weeks paper and hopefully we will have a few Foyle Cup winners from the peninsula.
