SHAUN KELLY faces a lengthy term in prison after he dramatically pleaded guilty to causing the death of eight men by dangerous driving.

The Buncrana 25-year-old admitted causing the death of seven of his friends and Dunaff man Hughie Friel four years ago, despite initially pleading ‘not guilty’ at Letterkenny Circuit Court on Tuesday morning.

Judge John O’Hagan said he hoped the development would bring ‘some kind of closure to the families’.

He asked each of the eight families to compile seperate victim impact reports, which will be read before Kelly is sentenced on December 9 next.
