Thousands witness Red Arrows airshow in Inishowen village
Thousands of spectators gathered at every available vantage point in Greencastle last Sunday to witness at first hand the world famous Red Arrows airshow during a ‘momentous day’ for the village.
Nine jets wowed the crowds with a breathtaking display of aerobatics and death-defying skill to spectacularly mark the end of the successful Maritime Festival and the Derry leg of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
Local county councillor Martin Farren described the event as an unqualified success.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see the Red Arrows in action and it was fantastic to see so many people, young and old, enjoying themselves in Greencastle.
It was an amazing weekend and one that many will remember for the rest of their lives,” he said.
Cllr. Farren said the closing of the Clipper Festival showcased Inishowen at its very best.
“We were able to show off the remarkable scenic beauty of the entire area to thousands of visitors, many of whom we hope will return here in the near future.
RTE filmed the event and it was a great tourist boost, particularly for the Foyle side of Inishowen,” he added.
