Well-known and loved Clonmany publican remembered at annual run

PAGE 8 Edmund McCallionTHE COMMUNITY of Clonmany paid tribute to well known and loved publican Edmund McCallion at a charity fun run a few weeks ago.

On Saturday, July 12, the annual Rusty Nail Charity Fun 5k was dedicated to the Rusty Nail publican, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Edmund was an avid fundraiser and a man with great community spirit, so it was fitting that his staff at the Rusty Nail carried on in his honour with the Fun 5k, which is now in its fourth year.

Friends, customers and neighbours turned up to walk, run and cycle the scenic route mapped out by Edmund, always to raise funds for their chosen charity, the Donegal Hospice.

A total of €1305 was raised from the walk, a raffle and donation buckets.

The organisers would like to thank all who supported the event in any way and to the various retailers and outlets who sponsored prizes, including:

Williams Butchers, Centra, Anne Maries hairdressers, Catriona’s newsagents, Rock Crystal Spa, Kellys Service Station, Inishowen Oil, JJ Kellys, John McGlynn, Valu Centre, Tullagh Bay Equestrian Centre and Brennans Pharmacy.

They also thanked the staff from the Rusty Nail who donated their tips from the weekend to the charity and to Aileen Doherty, Karen O’Donnell and Orla Devlin for their home baking and help to run the event.
