Whiteoaks to sponsor Burt under-age GAA teams

Back in February, the GAA’s annual congress adopted a motion that prohibits alcohol-related sponsorship for under-age teams.
Following on from that decision, the Whiteoaks Rehabilitation Centre has availed of the opportunity to sponsor a kit for the local Burt GAA U18 footballers and hurlers. Fr Neal Carlin, who established the rehab centre at Whiteoaks, says the time is now right to get involved with the GAA.
“There is a move nationwide by the GAA to separate its underage sponsorship from alcohol, and we thought this is the time for us to get involved in sending out a preventative message,” he said.
“We feel it’s a very good investment: it lets young people in the parish we’re based in know that we are right with them in their activities.”
“We appreciate the good work carried out by Fr Neal Carlin and his team at Whiteoaks in providing help for those suffering from addiction,” Burt GAA club PRO Damian Dowds said.
“And we hope the sponsorship helps raise awareness of that work for both our own club members, but also the teams we compete against throughout Donegal and further afield. “Alcohol abuse and participation in sport simply don’t mix.”
