Buncrana’s dole queue gets longer again

Unemployment for women nearing its highest level in the CSO history
Unemployment in Inishowen is at it’s highest level this year, according to the latest CSO statistics.
Just under four thousand people were signing on the live register in Buncrana in July, bringing unemployment to its’ biggest figures in 2014. However despite this increase the numbers are still down in comparison with July 2013.
A total of 3,966 people, the majority of which are males aged 25 years or more, were without fulltime employment in Inishowen for the month of July – an increase in 32 people in comparison to Junes figures.
However, despite older men being the most common group to be unemployed, the CSO figures have revealed that the number of men aged 25 or more has dropped from 2,073 in June to 2,030– a drop of about two per cent.
However, it is not good news for the other age brackets that are examined.
Every other group of people, namely men and women aged between 18 and 25 and women aged more than 25 years, included in the statistics has risen in comparison with the previous month.
The biggest increase for July is seen with females aged 25 or over. This has increased around five and a half per cent from 1,192 in June to 1,261 in July – the highest it has been since August 2013.
