In a display of solidarity with the people of Gaza, an evening of music, song, poetry and information has been arranged for Greencastle next Monday evening, September 1 at 7pm.
The ‘Shore to Shore’ event, at Kealy’s Seafood Restaurant, will raise awareness of the current conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people, the vast majority of them Palestinian civilians, including an estimated 500 children.
The anti-war gathering follows a number of well-attended protests in the area.
“We were delighted with the community response to the vigil last month in Moville. It is very clear that people are identifying at a very human level to what has been happening in Palestine and want to help in whatever way they can,” said one of the organisers, Rose Kelly.
“It is incredibly heartening to meet with the kind of response we have been encountering. People are responding to requests for help with such open heartedness and generosity, often simply clearing the decks in their own schedules for whatever needs to be done,” she added.
Admittance next Monday is by donation and all funds raised will be sent directly to Medicens Sans Frontieres, a humanitarian aid group, currently active in Gaza, that sends doctors and nurses to treat victims of war.
