Discount for third level students on Northwest Busways and McGonagle’s
A Bus Eireann blunder which has left tens of thousands of children without bus tickets ahead of the new school term is not expected to be a major issue in Inishowen, this newspaper has learned.
Bus Eireann says the delay in issuing around a third of its total tickets to more than 30,000 pupils has been caused by difficulties with a new computer system.
The national travel operator has advised parents still waiting for their tickets – at an annual cost of €650 – that evidence of payment will be accepted by bus drivers in the coming weeks.
It also intends to issue some temporary tickets until the problem has been resolved.
Bus Eireann says the outstanding tickets will be posted as soon as payment or medical card details have been processed by the new technology.
A spokesperson for Reddin’s Coach Hire in Muff, which operates both primary and secondary school routes in Inishowen, said the late tickets shouldn’t pose too many problems here however.
