Malin sisters end year on high note

The Henry Girls to support Clannad ahead of German tour

page 7 Henry GirlsLife in the dreamy pop, folk world of The Henry Girls has rarely been better.

This year, the band’s most successful, has already brought a critically-acclaimed fifth studio album and a slot at the world’s biggest music festival, one of many lauded gigs.

The next few months will see the Malin three-piece support a Donegal super-group before jetting off to Germany for a three-week stint of shows.

“We always keep busy,” said Lorna, one of three McLaughlin sisters in the Henry Girls.

At the end of October they will back Clannad in a five-date tour, taking in four cities across Ireland.

They are understandably excited about the prospect of such a high-profile supporting role.

“It’s such an honour to have been asked. We were pinching ourselves when we got the email from MCD to ask us if we were interested,” Lorna said.

“Clannad are an iconic band and the fact that they are from Donegal makes it even more special for us. We know a lot of their music having listened to them growing up and they were definitely an inspiration to us.”

In early November, Lorna, Joleen and Karen are back on the road again – for a 17-day tour of Germany, a country they are becoming increasingly familiar with.

“This will be our third tour to Germany. We are starting to feel really at home over there and have even started to learn some German,” Lorna said.

“It’s an amazing country to play in – the venues are gorgeous and so well equipped, plus the audiences are very welcoming. Touring in Germany has also taught us to become better time keepers!” she laughed.
