Buncrana dole numbers at lowest level in almost six years

Drop of 250 signing on Live Register this month
UNEMPLOYMENT in Inishowen is at its lowest level for more than five-and-a-half years, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office have revealed.
Last month 3,707 people signed on the Live Register in Buncrana – the lowest level since December 2008, when 3,394 were unemployed in the peninsula according to the CSO.
The number of people on the Live Register has dropped by 250 compared to the CSO figures for Buncrana in August. This is the biggest drop noted in the Dole figures since September 2011 when it dropped from 5,044 in August 2011 to 4,737 the following month.
It was the over 25-year-olds who mostly benefited from last month’s change in dole figures, with 183 men and women from the older category coming off the live register.
Between the sexes, the biggest drop lies amongst the men in Inishowen- dropping from 2,405 unemployed men in August, compared with 2,263 in September – a difference of 142. Out of this 142, 101 men were aged more than 25 whilst the remaining were aged between 18 and 25 years.
In the female category, a total of 108 women from around Inishowen came off the Live Register in September – 82 of these were aged more than 25 years whilst the remaining 26 were between 18 and 25 years old.
