‘Buncrana is cocaine capital’

Solicitor warns that a tragedy is likely unless problem is addressed

‘Buncrana is the cocaine capital of Donegal’ – that’s according to one leading solicitor who says the area is flooded with the drug.

Alarmed solicitor Ciaran MacLochlainn has warned there will be a tragedy unless the coke problem is tackled by gardai, immediately.

Gardai have strongly denied the claim and say there’s ‘no significant evidence to suggest a cocaine problem’.

At a recent sitting of Buncrana District Court, Mr MacLochlainn represented two defendants who were found guilty of being in possession of the class A drug. He said he is dealing with more and more court cases relating to cocaine use.

He said: “We had a drug problem about eight or ten years ago and the Garda drug squad came in from Letterkenny, and other areas, and cleaned it up, but now we’re back to where we were.

“I was told that in no certain terms that Buncrana is the main place for cocaine, the words used were ‘it’s awash with drugs’.”
