Highest number of love cheats in Buncrana
SIXTY-FOUR love cheats from Inishowen who used extra-marital dating website Ashley Madison now face having their details discovered as the website has been hacked.
Details of the website’s members, which had 45 members from Buncrana and 19 from Carndonagh, have been posted online.
Adultery website Ashley Madison, which has the tagline ‘Life is short, Have an affair’, was hacked last month by a group calling itself ‘The Impact Team’.
The hackers have said they have complete access to a database of more than 37 million members, which includes 110,000 Irish members.
They have released email address, names, postal address, phone numbers and credit card details taken from the company’s servers. The information has been dumped on the so-called Dark Web, which cannot be accessed from mainstream web browsers.
The Inishowen Independent has discovered that there are 64 cheaters in the peninsula. In Buncrana, 95 per cent of the users are male, while 89 per cent of users in Carndonagh are also male.
That’s not all, it has emerged there’s a further 767 subscribers to Ashley Madison in Letterkenny and 1,219 in Derry. Areas that had fewer members than 10 members were not revealed in the database the Inishowen Independent accessed.
A number of online databases have been set up, allowing partners to search for their spouses’ email addresses – to see if they’ve been cheating – but people have been warned to use these with caution and not to give personal information away.
Police in Toronto have said that extortion and online scams claiming to proved access to the leaked data and offers to delete it from the web are ‘spin off’ crimes.
Noel Biderman, the boss of the Canadian-based website has resigned from the firm following the hacking scandal.
Avid Life Media, who is the parent company for Ashley Madison are offering a reward of €325,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the hackers.
