There has been a guarded welcome to the news that a preferred site has been identified for Buncrana’s education campus – some 11 years after the search for a site began and 4 years after which responsibility for assessing sites passed to Donegal County Council.

Principals at Crana College and Gaelscoil Bhun Cranncha, who along with Coláiste Chineál Eoghain will share the campus, have welcomed the development.

Kevin Cooley, Crana College principal said: “I’m delighted we have moved another step further in the process.

“It’s good news, not only for the three schools but for Buncrana also.”

Úna Ní Mhaoildeirg Uí Cheallaigh, príomhoide (principal) of Gaelscoil Bhun Cranncha, said she was ‘pleased to advise that…a preferred site has been identified’.

The news was delivered to representatives from the three schools at a meeting with officials from the Department of Education and Skills last week.
