New car sales in Donegal are up almost a third this year, with white proving the most popular colour, Toyota the most popular make and the Hyundai Tucson the most popular model.
A total of 2,492 cars were registered in the county through the first half of 2016, an increase of more than 29 cent on the same period last year, statistics from MyVehicle.ie have revealed.
Toyota tops the 161-DL number-plate table with a total of 412 cars registered from January through June; that represents 16.5 per cent of all cars sold here and is up on the 295 Toyotas sold in the county in the first six months of 2015.
Classified as a compact SUV, the Hyundai Tucson topped the list of diesel cars in Donegal; coincidentally there were 161 Tucsons sold in the county in the first half of 2016.
Other popular diesel models include the Kia Sportage, Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia and Toyota Rav-4, which sold 345 between them.
In the petrol category, the Toyota Yaris is number one with 75 registrations in Donegal this year to date, just ahead of the Hyundai i20, Opel Corsa, Volkswagen Polo and Ford Fiesta in the local popularity stakes.
