Inishowen set to get ‘lion’s share’ of funding for unfinished estates

‘Problematic’ Bridgend developments top of Council list

By Katie Barr

THREE housing estates in Bridgend are a central part of a €1 million takeover by Donegal County Council, it has been revealed.

Last week it was announced that more than €1 million had been dedicated to the Council to allow them to take charge of 40 problematic housing developments in Donegal.

Fine Gael Minister of State Joe McHugh TD said €1,049,769 has been confirmed to allow the council to take over 1,818 homes in the county.

Newtown councillor Paul Canning welcomed the announcement, saying it was ‘good to get things moving in the right direction’.

Cllr. Canning said Inishowen will receive the ‘lion’s share’ of the funding, with the majority of estates being taken over being within the peninsula.

He said the three particular estates in Bridgend need to be taken over by the council as soon as possible as they are having ‘serious difficulties’.
