Women and U25s account for most of increase
The number of people receiving job seekers’ assistance and benefit in Inishowen increased slightly last month…against the national trend which is falling.
And the number of women signing on has increased in Inishowen over the year to date, again against the national trend.
The overall number of people on the live register increased by 60, or 2.1%, between June and July and now stands at 2,900. In the rest of the Republic, the number signing on fell by 1.7%. The rest of Donegal excluding Inishowen fell by 0.1%, or 14 people.
The live register breaks recipients down by both age (under 25s over 25s) and gender (male/female).
The number of people signing on the dole in Inishowen increased in each category other than men aged over 25.
That is to say, the number of men and women aged under 25, and women aged over 25, all increased.
And it’s women who account for most of the increase, with 76 more women signing on in July than in June, an increase of 6.4%.
In the rest of Donegal, the number of women signing on grew by 113, or 2%.
Nationally, the number of women signing on fell.
