High winds and lightning storms wreak havoc

Phone, broadband outages in Buncrana and Carn; falling slates in Moville
Windy weather and electrical storms have wreaked havoc in Inishowen in recent days, with many households and businesses left without phone or broadband lines.
Provider eir confirmed that fifty customers were affected by faults to their phone lines following lightning strikes here on Wednesday and Thursday.
Eir spokesperson Allan Mulrooney said most of the faults have now been repaired.
“Lines were affected in the Buncrana and Carndonagh areas. At its peak the storm caused 50 faults for our customers with the majority affected in the Buncrana area.”
“Our technical teams worked around the clock on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to resolve the issues and the vast majority of these faults are now fixed. We plan for the remaining faults to be fixed in the next 24 hours,” he added.
Meanwhile a number of local motorists were turned away from the Carn NCT centre on Thursday because its online systems were down.
