Local emergency medical crews stretched to the limit on Sunday

Local ambulance crews were stretched to the limit at the weekend, responding to FOUR separate reports of injury at sporting fixtures across Inishowen on Sunday, including two at one match.

In all four cases, local players sustained serious leg injuries and required hospitalisation, with an average emergency response time of around 33 minutes.

Three of the incidents occurred at Inishowen League football matches while the fourth was at a Gaelic football match.

The first call-out was to a Donegal Signs Reserve Shield match at Redcastle, where a Gleneely player suffered a suspected dislocated knee-cap and torn ligaments around 30 minutes into the first-half.

An ambulance was called and arrived within 30 to 40 minutes to attend to the stricken man.
