America goes to the polls today in most anticipated election for decades
The latest polls predict a narrow win for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in today’s presidential election but who are the Inishowen ex-pats backing?
We asked a number of locals with US links for their views on what has become the most talked-about race for the White House in decades.
PAUL FERNS, who grew up in Detroit, Michigan but now lives in Buncrana, is in the Hillary camp, even though he isn’t head over heels about the prospect of another President Clinton. He says he usually votes independent.
“I have an absentee ballot but I didn’t use it.”
“If I was voting, I would opt for Hillary Clinton as the least worst option of the two candidates. When I look at all the different reasons to vote, I find that I agree with her more on some of the main issues, such as tax, the economy and others.”
Paul says Donald Trump’s campaign has been littered with ludicrous claims and pledges that can never be delivered.
“I think some of Trump’s policies are totally crazy and not realistic at all. He is saying all these crazy things to speak to a certain element of the population but I don’t really know where he stands on many of the main issues. He hasn’t said a lot about any of his policies. I think he has tried to stir things up but it has backfired on him.”
