Local teachers in favour with an official announcement likely
Local PE teachers have welcomed the forthcoming inclusion of physical education as a Leaving Cert subject.
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment – which helps set the school curriculum – is expected to imminently endorse PE as a State exam subject at secondary schools here.
The Inishowen Independent has learned that the NCCA discussed the move at a recent meeting but fell short of an official announcement while a number of minor issues are ironed out.
Shane McArt, a PE teacher at Crana College, said a large majority of his colleagues would support the move.
“I would definitely be in favour. Most PE teachers have fought hard for this over the years; fought to get equal recognition with other subjects.”
