Youth unemployment at record low in Buncrana
UNEMPLOYMENT in Inishowen is now at a nine year low as numbers signing on the Live Register in Buncrana continue to fall.
Last month just over 2,500 were unemployed in Inishowen for the month of October according to the latest data released by the Central Statistics Office.
A total of 2,552 were unemployed in Buncrana for the month of October, 122 less than the previous month of September.
The numbers also represent an almost 17 per cent fall year on year, when there was more than 3,000 men and women on the Live Register in Buncrana in October 2015.
The vast majority of unemployed people in Inishowen are in the older age bracelet, with just less than 300, namely 293, young people without full jobs here.
Just 141 men and 152 women, aged between 18 and 24, are without employment, according to the Live Register figures from the CSO. This is the lowest level in the unemployment statistics ever. Currently the CSO provides data back to 2002 when there was 388 young people on the Live Register.
Annually the youth unemployment numbers have dropped by almost 27 per cent when there were 400 young people without employment in Inishowen.
