15 rainfree days results in driest December since 2010
INISHOWEN has just experienced it’s driest December in six years according to the very latest Met Eireann weather statistics.
A mere almost three inches, or 76mm, of rain fell throughout the month of December at Malin Head according to the local Met Eireann weather station, making it the driest twelfth month since 2010.
This December is far from December 2015 when was more than 270mm of rain falling throughout the month in Malin Head – a massive three and a half times more than December 2016.
The statistics have revealed that there were 15 rain free days in Inishowen this December, with the majority of these coming at the start of the month.
The wettest day of the month was Christmas Eve. There was 13.4mm of rain on December 24 and gusts of 60 miles per hour was also recorded at Inishowen’s most northerly point.
The strongest winds were detected on Christmas Day with gusts reaching 73 miles per hour in Malin Head, which 2.3mm of rain was also detected.
