HUNDREDS of local speeding motorists are escaping penalty points and court appearances, it has been revealed.
A study carried out by the Irish Independent revealed that 761 out of a possible 1,530 speeding cases in the county did not come before Donegal courts because summons were not served in the last two years.
It total fifty per cent of speeding motorists avoided a court appearance due to the non service of summons.
In addition to the problems with the service of summons, regularly dozens of people in both Carn and Buncrana Courts have their speeding charges struck out after claiming they do not receive the fixed charge penalty notice.
