Near-miss as empty car careers onto busy beach in Moville
Coastal walkers in Moville had a lucky escape, narrowly escaping potential serious injury, when a car suddenly careered across a busy path onto a beach – without a driver at the wheel.
The vehicle had been parked on a slope above Glenburnie beach, a mile north of Moville town, when it suddenly gained momentum and rolled onto the sand at speed.
It is thought that the handbrake of the Volkswagen Golf vehicle may have malfunctioned on a steep incline above the Lough Foyle beauty spot, popular year-round with bathers and walkers.
