GARDAI NAME CRASH VICTIM

The late John McLaughlin (Rustard)

Gardai have named the man who was killed in a road traffic collision yesterday evening, as John McLaughlin (Rustard), originally from Malin.

The dad-0f-two, in his late thirties, died at around 6pm on Monday at Strandhead, Malin.

Buncrana’s Superintendent Eugene McGovern has appealed for information from anyone who may have seen the collision, or the two vehicles involved – prior to the fatal accident.

He said John was driving a black Kia Rio, with Donegal plates, travelling from Carndonagh to Malin.

The driver of the other vehicle, who is in his early 20s, was driving a black Audi A4, with Northern Ireland plates, and was travelling in the opposite direction.

John, who was residing in Greencastle with his wife and family, was heavily involved in the Malin GAA club both as a player, and latterly as an administrator.

On their Facebook page, Malin GAA paid tribute to John, saying: “It is with total shock and sadness that our Club learned of the tragic death of John. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are with Mags Johns wife, Niamh his daughter, Sean his son and Johns parents Noel and Rosaleen, his brothers and sisters and all Johns extended Family.”
