Social welfare inspectors blitz businesses
Unregistered staff and illegal aliens discovered in some instances
Social welfare inspectors swooped on more than 70 businesses last week as part of two-day investigation into the shadow economy in Inishowen.
Officials from the Department of Social Protection were joined by colleagues from the Revenue Commissioners, Customs Service and Workplace Relations Commission as they investigated social welfare fraud throughout the peninsula.
On Monday, teams visited business premises in Moville, Malin, Glengad, Carndonagh and Clonmany, while on Tuesday businesses in the Buncrana area were targeted.
