Danielle defendant to appear in court in ‘next two weeks’

Second post mortem report could turn murder case ‘one way or the other’

A Derry solicitor acting for the family of murdered Danielle McLaughlin says he expects the defendant to appear before the courts in India in the “next two weeks”.

Police in Goa have arrested and charged a 24-year-old man, Vikas Bhagat, with the murder of Ms McLaughlin (28).

Solicitor Des Doherty says the results of the second postmortem, carried out by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy, will be vital to the murder case.

“One major development that could turn this case one way or the other is the second post mortem report. We expect to receive the results of that very, very soon,” he said.
