Culdaff and Shroove maintain theirs, while Greencastle Marina gets its first
There was dismay yesterday when it was revealed that Inishowen’s busiest beach, at Lisfannon near Fahan, had lost its coveted Blue Flag status because its water quality didn’t meet the required standard.
Inishowen’s other Blue Flag beaches, at Culdaff and Shroove, retained their Blue Flag status for the summer bathing season, which runs from June to September, while the disappointment at Lisfannon’s loss was tempered somewhat by the award of a first ever Blue Flag for Greencastle Marina.
Lisfannon was one of just three beaches in the country to lose Blue Flag status; the others being in Killiney and Donabate in County Dublin.
